Someone once called me the “ideas girl”. I wasn’t really sure if I should take it as a compliment or insult. I had always been a person with new ideas. And I enjoyed pitching them to those around me. But that didn’t mean I wasn’t a doer. In fact, I’ve always been passionate about trying new things. I’ve had over twenty-one different types of jobs in my life, thus far, from banker, to librarian, to compliance administrator, to group home staffer, to steakhouse hostess, and even hair salon apprentice. I’ve worked on Madison Avenue, Park Avenue and Wall Street. In Clinton Hills, Forrest Hills and Beverly Hills. And I’ve thoroughly enjoyed collecting experiences and learning about other people’s experiences along the way. For me life equals stories.
Writing has always been a passion of mine. From journaling to fictional short stories. I wrote my first book at age six. It was a picture book, about the Bronx Zoo… It was riveting... In my humble opinion. By age twelve I was writing erotica… But I burned the pages and flushed them down the toilet for fear someone might actually read them. When I began my acting career my interest changed to plays. I entered screenplay contests and had table readings for my work. And finally, in 2014, I got brave, and started actually producing some of my scripts. I co-founded a film production company, and in the span of two years, I wrote and produced three short films that all went on to modest film festivals. The “ideas girl” was developing into a woman who created. But I had no clear voice.
In 2016 I moved to Los Angeles and took classes that helped me to explore series writing. With a focus of television writing, I began creating scripts that spoke to my soul, to my experiences as a black woman, and that addressed challenging issues within the black community. The goal of Lil Ms. Manifest Production, my new production company, is to offer a place of honesty, humanity and healing through arts and entertainment. If we can cry together we can laugh together. I strive to create exciting and informative stories that bring hope and joy to their audiences.
